Rose Kamoto
Painter and Community Leader
Rose Kamoto was born in Kenya in 1969. She is a self-taught artist, and for many years, she has worked as a teacher in Naivasha, Kenya. Living among the Maasai Tribe of Kenya has derived her use of vibrant colours depicting the Maasai cultural way of life. Rose Kamoto is an extremely versatile artist who works in various mediums including oil, acrylic, and textures made from mixed media such as hessian and gauze swabs. Her work can range from contemporary to ultra realism.
She resigned from her teaching job and moved to South Africa in 1999 where she currently lives with her family. She exhibits her work at the Rosebank Sunday market in Johannesburg.
Rose Kamoto understands the pain that abused rural women go through while trying to raise their children. In 2017, she started the initiative to train women through arts and crafts. Their work creates an income, providing motivated hope for their families and making education possible for their children.
