Daxx Tfwala
Painter
Born in 1982, Daxx Tfwala is a male self taught visual artist based in Gauteng, South Africa. Daxx is a qualified panel-beating artisan, a trade that he worked in between 2000-2007. He had to let go of the automotive trade in 2007 due to medical reasons and unavailable jobs. He then tried his hand at drawing. Without a mentor and vast internet access, he struggled to learn and instead would observe other artists around him.
After many mistakes, ridicule and encouragements, Daxx would venture into selling art at craft markets in 2013, beginning his art business. His initial pieces were more of the Khoisan clan lifestyle depictions, although in time he was easily drawn towards bright colours. Africa and the world at large is colour. Most of his paintings are purchased by customers from abroad as they usually seek African souvenirs. New ranges of mostly musician artworks have proven to be his clients' favourites of late. His all time treasured piece "Jazzy" is a thick layered palette knife painted piece depicting three jazz musicians.
In 2015, Daxx was highlighted in the Liverpool Contemporary Art Fair in the UK. Daxx is a national award winning and published poet too. Talk of a Renaissance man!
